The design of Kopos® is inspired by the olive groves of Greece, where the oil is carefully selected. The name Kopos, which translates to toil in Greek, is a tribute to the laborious process of producing and processing this quality olive oil. The design aims to associate the product with the olive grove and the hard work involved in the production of a high-quality olive oil.
One of the unique properties of this design is the use of pruned olive tree branches. To improve the crop quality, olive trees are pruned when necessary. The collected branches, after careful selection and processing, are used as caps for the olive oil packaging. This innovative approach not only adds a unique aesthetic to the packaging but also promotes sustainability by utilizing waste materials from the production process.
The packaging is realized using glass and wood. The glass bottle is adorned with a silkscreen print, and the cap is made from physical olive tree wood. The interaction with the product occurs through the matte painting of the glass and the colors carefully selected as a direct reference to the olive tree. The wooden cap, made from the tree branches, enhances this interaction with nature.
Chris Trivizas, along with his team, including Harry Tzannis and Sissy Caravia, faced several challenges during the design process. The main challenge was to ensure that the collected olive branches could be processed and used as caps for the packaging. However, with careful planning and execution, they were able to overcome this challenge, resulting in a unique and innovative design.
The design of Kopos® has been recognized for its innovation and creativity, winning the Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2016. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
